Cannabis Beverages in 2025: A Growing Market Among Parents of Young Children With Wellness Appeal

For thousands of years, Cannabis has been used by cultures around the world for both medicinal and recreational purposes. However, in recent decades, cannabis beverages–drinks containing THC–have begun to make a name for themselves, offering an alternative for consumers who are looking for a feel-good drink that won’t leave them with a hangover. Keep reading to learn more about the current market for cannabis drinks in the U.S.

Among U.S. adults aged 21+ who are aware of cannabis beverages, 18% of respondents indicate an interest in trying a drink containing THC. Given the fact that 16% of respondents reported that they at least ‘occasionally’ (or ‘frequently’) consume cannabis drinks, that level of interest indicates a strong potential for rapid growth in the industry.

Parents of children five and younger—and most notably parents of 3-5 years old—show the highest rates of interest in and adoption of cannabis beverages. Broader demographic data also indicate that women and adults aged 21-34  are the most likely to consume drinks with THC, details that are worth noting for beverage companies looking to reach the most interested consumers.

    Seeking a healthy high

When happy hour rolls around, those who ‘frequently consume’ cannabis beverages are the most likely to prefer clear spirits. Additionally, frequent consumers of THC beverages prefer clear spirits to brown spirits in general.

Despite a proclivity for alcohol, ‘frequent’ cannabis beverage drinkers are also the most likely to be ‘very’ or ‘somewhat’ curious about a sober lifestyle. Additionally, roughly one-third of consumers who ‘occasionally’ or ‘frequently’ consume these drinks report that they do not drink alcohol. This, combined with further Civicscience data showing that those same consumers are significantly more likely to purchase organic food compared to their counterparts, suggests that wellness may be a driver in THC beverage consumption.

    Taking the edge off

But why reach for a cannabis beverage in the first place? The data reveals a potential clue. Those who consume beverages with THC show higher levels of stress and worry than any other group, suggesting that the buzz from a cannabis drink might be taking the edge off at the moment but not necessarily making a long-term impact.

In 2025, cannabis beverages are only growing in popularity, and as the data show, these consumers contain multitudes. With higher levels of stress, an interest in wellness, and sober curiosity, those interested in a THC beverage buzz are a marketable group.
