PAHRUMP, NEV. – The Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of the State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations recognizes Wellness Orchards of Nevada in Pahrump, Nevada with the Safe Partner Award. Designed to increase safety awareness and strengthen safety culture within the workplace, this elite award is given to a maximum of four businesses annually out of the 100,000 employers in Nevada. Wellness Orchards of Nevada is the first cannabis company to receive this distinction.
“When we called SCATS for a free safety consultation, we were impressed with the way they explained step-by-step what would occur during the consultation/inspection prior to walking the facility with us,” said Margaret Taylor, Occupational Health and Safety Manager. “At the end of the consultation, we walked away with a lot of supplemental safety knowledge and a better understanding of OSHA regulations. That initial SCATS consultation led to four other consultations at The Source sister sites, and the improvements and technical insights we implemented company-wide were largely driven by SCATS’ expert recommendations.”
Working with SCATS has enabled the Wellness Orchards’ team to make significant improvements to employee safety. In its safety culture improvement efforts, the organization utilized SCATS’ online and in-person safety trainings, with some employees starting the Safety Practitioner Certificate Program.
Wellness Orchards joins a committed group of organizations that prioritize employee health and safety. Recognition is granted for using a range of the no-cost services from SCATS such as safety consultations, training courses, enrollment in the Safety and Health Practitioner Program and more.
“SCATS is privileged to partner with companies like Wellness Orchards that prioritize their employees’ health and well-being,” said Todd Schultz, Chief Administrative Officer for SCATS. “Their team’s commitment to consistent improvement for their worksite safety culture makes them a leader in their industry––the Safe Partner Award is a celebration of their excellence and SCATS is thrilled to honor them with this recognition.”
SCATS provides employers with confidential hazard identification, program development, implementation assistance and training. Employers who implement effective safety programs and have a days-away restricted transfer rate below the national average for their industry may be recognized by SCATS.
