The Rising Concern of Cannabis-Impaired Driving

A growing number of drivers are getting behind the wheel while under the influence of cannabis, raising serious safety concerns. According to a study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, more than half of cannabis users drive within 30 minutes of consuming the substance. Shockingly, 53% admitted to consuming within an hour before driving, while another 20% did so two to three hours prior.

Many users believe cannabis does not impair their driving or even improves it. However, experts warn that being high can slow reaction times, reduce focus, and impact decision-making, all of which increase the risk of accidents.

So, how do we address this issue? Research suggests that cannabis users are most likely to heed warnings from two key sources: their doctors and the cannabis industry. AAA is urging both to play a role in educating consumers about the dangers of impaired driving.

As cannabis use becomes more common, raising awareness and promoting responsible behavior on the road is more crucial than ever. Stay safe and think twice before driving under the influence.
