Ottawa police have recently shut down an unlicensed cannabis dispensary located on Beechwood Avenue, just east of downtown, after months of investigation and multiple warnings to the business operator. The investigation into the dispensary began in March, when officers from the Vanier/Overbrook neighbourhood resource team initiated inquiries following reports of unlawful cannabis sales. According to the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), both the police and the property owners issued Notices of Contravention to the dispensary operator, urging them to either comply with Ontario’s cannabis laws or cease operations immediately.
Despite these formal warnings, the dispensary continued to operate without a proper license, violating provincial regulations that govern the legal sale of cannabis. On April 22, officers executed a search warrant at the business, seizing what they described as “wholesale quantities of cannabis” alongside other cannabis-related products, cash, and “drug-trafficking equipment.” These items, including products that were potentially being sold illegally, were confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.
As a result of the search and seizure, the dispensary has been permanently shut down. The premises have since been returned to the property owners, who now have control over the space.
