The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission recently decided to waive a vote on a fee tacked onto the cannabis.
The Social Equity Excise Fee amount was expected to have been voted on by the CRC that would determine raising the fee from $1.24 an ounce to as much as $30 for 2025 on the cultivation of recreational cannabis.
This vote’s delay will allow the CRC board additional time to determine an appropriate SEEF rate for 2025.
“By extending the timeline to set the Social Equity Excise Fee for 2025, we’re ensuring that our decision reflects an intentional and thoughtful commitment to community reinvestment and sustainable growth for New Jersey’s cannabis industry,” NJ-CRC Commission Chair Dianna Houenou, said.
The date of when the board is expected to vote on the 2025 SEEF rate has yet to be determined.
The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission establishes and enforces the rules and regulations governing the licensing, cultivation, manufacturing, testing, selling, and purchasing of cannabis in the state.
