COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. [KKTV] - In less than a day, adults 21 and over will be able to purchase recreational marijuana in Colorado Springs. Stores with an approved license will finally be able to engage in retail sales.
The last time 11 News checked city records, it showed 24 local stores with active retail marijuana licenses, one store still pending with their inspection.
Our 11 News Team talked with The Epic Remedy the week of April 13th, last week, which was one of the first stores to have their licenses secured. They now have the approval to sell in three of their stores. One being East Fountain Boulevard, another West Colorado Avenue, and lastly their other location on East Platte.
The stores will be holding their soft launch tomorrow, where products they’ve ordered will start to roll in.
“Hopefully, we’ll kind of have all hands-on-deck getting this stuff ready, and if people come in and we don’t quite have the product they’re looking for ready to go yet, we’ll let ‘em know,” The Epic Remedy’s Operations Manager, Dustin Taylor, explained. “Our plan is to, if we have it on the shelf, we’ll do our best to get it selling. But, the plan is to have all that done, for the most part, by the end of the day tomorrow so that Wednesday we can actually fully start selling stuff... We’re really just excited to see how it’s going to go. There’s a lot of unknowns right now. This is a market in Colorado Springs that has never existed until now, and so we’re all really excited to just get it going and see how it’s going to go, work out the kinks and stuff like that.”
With the new transition happening, The Epic Remedy expects to see more people coming into their stores. They want to remind customers of the rules and regulations that they must follow.
“The main thing is you have to be 21 or over, and you have to have a valid ID, that ID has to be government issued,” Taylor said. “It has to have your name, address, birthdate, and an expiration date on it. Those IDs will be scanned when we check people in.”
The store will have various marijuana products, ranging from gummies to taffy, edibles, concentrates, flour, vape cartridges, and more. They’re mostly excited to see some new faces in their store.
“We passed recreational marijuana over a decade ago in the state, and now Colorado Springs is catching up with the rest of the state,” Taylor explained. “To just be able to run our business the way we’ve always thought we should be able to is a huge thing for us. And again, just being able to serve the general public and not just a very specific group of people... So all are welcome now.”
