Police allege 70-year-old ran ‘illicit Cannabis grow’

70-Year-Old Man Charged After Police Seize 40 Cannabis Plants in Hay River.

Police in Hay River say a 70-year-old man has been charged after police found “a large number of cannabis plants on the property.”

In a Monday news release, RCMP said officers had discovered the plants following a call to a Hay River home last month.

They returned on September 6 and searched the property, RCMP stated on Monday, seizing 40 cannabis plants – “10 times what is currently permitted under the Cannabis Act,” police added.

The man, whose name was not made public, is charged with possessing more than four cannabis plants and is expected in court at a later date.

Separately, RCMP in the town reported that three allegedly impaired drivers had been charged over the past weekend.

Police said one person, “reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic,” was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.
