KIMBALL JUNCTION, Summit County — A California man was found with over 80 pounds of marijuana, among other drugs, during a speed stop on I-80 Sunday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Duane Joseph Lee, 50, was driving east on I-80 on Sunday morning when he was pulled over going 75 in a 65-mph zone, around five miles east of Kimball Junction, according to a police booking affidavit.
During the stop, the trooper "noticed the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle," the booking report said. Lee admitted he did not have a valid medical marijuana card, the affidavit says, so the trooper searched the vehicle to find a duffel bag of marijuana.
Lee was arrested, and the car was taken to the Utah Highway Patrol office in Heber City for a full search, according to the booking report.
"Multiple large duffel bags were also located containing multiple large vacuum-sealed bags filled with raw marijuana," the affidavit says, totaling 83 pounds.
Six large vacuum-sealed bags of psilocybin mushrooms, 4,000 MDMA pills, 200 THC cartridges, "approximately three dozen packages of edible THC products," along with multiple prerolled joints, "one of which had burn residue," according to the arrest documents.
Lee has a California driver's license and is homeless, according to court documents. He was booked into the Summit County Jail on Sunday afternoon and is being held there while he is under investigation of three counts of possession with intent to distribute — two are second-degree felonies, and one is a third-degree felony.
